NACPM - URGENT CALL TO ACTION: Midwifery Education Funding
The National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM) recently shared the following action alert regarding federal funding for midwifery education. We are sharing the information below for those who may be interested.
Dear Midwifery Community,
Please take just two minutes before June 5th to contact your Members of Congress and urge them to protect the midwifery set-aside in the final FY 2027 Labor, HHS Appropriations Bill!
This funding isn’t just a line item; it’s a lifeline for the programs that educate and train the next generation of midwives who will serve families and communities across the country.
Accredited midwifery education programs support all nationally recognized midwifery credentials — Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), Certified Midwives (CMs), and Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs). Without this funding, these programs and the expanded access to midwifery-led care they make possible are at risk.
Every email, call, and conversation makes a difference in securing the future of midwifery care and birth center access!
Remember, you don't have to be a midwife to make a difference. If you know someone who cares about maternal health, birth justice, or expanding access to midwives and birth centers, please share this call to action with them. Every voice adds to the chorus.
The Subcommittee marks up the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Bill on June 5th. Together, we can make sure Congress hears how much this community — and the families we serve — depends on this investment.
With gratitude and solidarity,
The NACPM Team
