Santa Fe Birth Center, a nonprofit business, is seeking a compassionate,
confident, enterprising, collegial midwife who trusts birth’s physiological process--
women’s ability to birth in a non-medical setting. Enjoying working collaboratively as
well as independently is important, including excellent communication skills, and taking
pleasure promoting family centered, culturally sensitive care in Santa Fe’s diverse
community.
This midwife joins a team of another midwife, several birth assistant midwives,
doulas, an administrator, a biller and an executive director. Two years experience
offering maternity care is required and birth center and/or home birth experience is
desirable. Licensure is as a CNM, CPM or LM. Experience offering well woman care is a
plus. Responsibilities include conducting full scope midwifery care including prenatal,
birth, postpartum and newborn care -- developing trusting relationships with individual
women and families. Diagnosing conditions outside the Center’s scope of care and
making appropriate referrals is essential. When transport is necessary to the nearby
hospital the midwife skillfully makes a smooth transition for clients by maintaining
collegial relationships with CNM staff as well as with other providers of adjunct services.
Tasks include joining other staff conducting chart review, revising charts to improve
client care, using electronic medical records, and ordering and processing lab work. The
midwife abides by Department of Health regulations, and New Mexico Midwives
Practice Guidelines. This midwife enthusiastically promotes Santa Fe Birth Center’s
success by helping with open houses, tours of the center or other marketing efforts.
Start Date: January 1, 2021
Licensure Requirements: CNM, CPM or LM
Salary is competitive based on training and experience. The center provides
malpractice coverage.
NRP and BLS certification
Spanish/English speakers are desired.
The Birth Center’s warm physical environment in a beautifully renovated adobe
home has three clinic rooms, two birth rooms with soaking tubs, a walled garden, a
kitchen/dining room for clients to prepare meals, and a living/reception/library.
Santa Fe Birth Center’s mission is to provide a safe, satisfying birth choice for
women who wish to be attended through birth’s physiological process by practitioners
who are knowledgeable and skilled in techniques facilitating healthy births.
